Exercise 2 – Sketch book walk

For this exercise we were told to go on a walk and quickly sketch 4 pieces to show what we sighted on the walk. Due to recent circumstances (COVID- 19) I wasn’t able to go on the walk therefore I did four sketches from things I saw around my garden!

I enjoyed looking at all these things and seeing my everyday sights in a different light and sketching them down, looking closer at detail, lighting and shades etc. Here are my results from this exercise:

I did enjoy doing this exercise and it did make me think more about the sights I see and different textures, I looked at everything in a different light such as; how was I going to show the wood effect on the shed, or the holes on our fencing around the garden a as well as the different tones throughout my sketches. I do like the way these all turned out and I think I captured main sights in our garden and the things that get seen often. I think the way I presented the different textures and tones throughout these sketches were good, I liked the different techniques I used and I think I did well presenting what everything was.

All in all, I think this piece turned out well and I’m happy with the final sketches, I do think if I had spent more time on this I would’ve been able to put more detail into each of these but the exercise was to more take in your surroundings and see how different things can be drawn and presented. I enjoyed doing this exercise and will do more sketches in my spare time to get used to quick sketching and not caring much about making it perfect etc.
