Paul Cezanne was another French artist in the 1800’s but was post impressions therefore his work laid the foundations for the transition from the 19th-century conception of artistic to a new and radically different world of art in the 20th century. Cezanne often repetitive, exploratory brushstrokes are highly characteristic and clearly noticeable. He used planes of colour and small brushstrokes that build up to form complex fields.
This piece below is a piece of his art work called “Road with Tree’s in Rocky Mountains”, he created this piece in 1870/1871.

In this piece you can see his classic techniques on his brush work and how each stroke is individual to make the impression of the leaves and the different tones throughout to show the lighting throughout the piece, I think the shadows along the road is really clever and shows the shading throughout the piece very well. I like the different texture he has created on the rocks to create a harsh look to them. I really do enjoy his work and I would like to look more into this style when doing my own work.
All in all, I would love to look more into this style and use paints within my own exercises and piece’s of artwork, I think it creates an effective and fascinating look, I also like the fact that this artist doesn’t paint each individual leaf and it still looks so realistic and effective. I will try and experiment more with paints within my own work to see how I can build a skill with another material I am not normally used to.
