Research Point- Claude Monet

Claude Monet was a famous French artist in the 1800’s , his work was loved by thosands and he was world known. Monet was a founder of Impressionist painting which was the most consistent and practitioner of the movement on philosophy of expressing a persons perceptions before nature, this was applied to plein air landscape painting. Monets ambition was documenting the French countryside which impacting him to paint the same scene multiple times but captured the changing of the light and passing through the seasons which was genius at it’s time.

This piece above is an oil painting called “Waterlilies and Japanese Bridge”. This piece was done in 1899 by Monet. I like this piece a lot, I love the colours and the brush techniques. The flowers along the water give the whole piece life and I love the different strokes and markings throughout his painting. I think the style of his work is really affective and shows that you don’t have to mark each individual leafs to make an effective piece of art. I find a lot of my trouble when doing a piece of art is forcing myself to try and make it look real but in actual fact art isn’t about recreating things, it’s about expressing and showing your own style within that picture.

I really do like this artist and I love his markings and strokes of the paint throughout this piece. His style of work is unique and really stands out, I would love to try to use paints like this and experiment more with markings. All in all I would like to try to do a piece like this myself.
