Research Point- Peter Doig

Peter Doig is a Scottish painter, his work is really popular and he is a fantastic painter. He is the most renowned living figurative painter. One of his most known paintings sold for $11.3 million and broke an auction record for a living European artist. Most of his artwork is known for being landscapes and somewhat abstract. A lot of his work is from his childhood snowy scenes of Canada where he grew up.

Below is a picture of one of his piece called “Grande Riviere”  an oil painting created in 2001-2002.

This picture is very fascinating to me, the different colours that are used and the techniques done within his paint markings are very unique and interesting. The different shapes he’s created are almost drip looking, like the paint had been dripped to form this shapes to recreated these leave’s. I like the different dark colours he has used to created this misty seeming scene, the way he’s shown the different tones throughout this piece. I like with all these artists that they aren’t accurate and the way they have represented all of these landscapes. I really have become inspired by these artists and made me want to experiment with different materials and methods of presenting landscapes.

All in all I like this style of work and have become inspired by all these different represents landscapes and has me excited to have a new look on how I can create artwork in different ways than making everything look realistic all the time. I want to explore more into different styles of art and find my way.
