In this exercise we were asked to create a piece with tonal graduation to show the change of tones throughout a landscape. To keep in mine the distance and to show the different perspective throughout the drawing, also this piece is to be done with a different media to sketching pencil therefore I chose to use charcoal.
Below is a picture of my result, I wanted to show the different tones throughout and in the different tones I used different amounts of shading etc. I used darker tones for the background, to show the distance and also the coldness from above.

I chose to use charcoal as the last time I used it I thought it created a really nice effect when it comes to detail and tones, I thought this was the perfect option for this exercise. used my finger to make the effect of the water trailing through the rocks. I used quick and fast markings to show the softness and texture the grass and toned it up to the bottom of the bridge. I wanted to use my finger to show the different tones throughout the background and create the perspective of a distance from the foreground of the piece. I wanted to show less tone throughout the rocks as they were the front of the piece and it is a cold tone of the full landscape, I enjoyed doing this piece very much and am very happy with the end result. I used different methods of mark makings and made a good impression of shading throughout, I think I have created the sense of distance and depth throughout.
All in all, I am happy with the final outcome of this piece and I think I responded well to the exercise. I like the different tone work I have done throughout the piece and I think the different mark making throughout create an effective full landscape as a whole. I do think I would like to use charcoal more often as I like the texture and detail you can create with the material.
